USEE at the Sorenson Center CommUNITY Fair

This past Saturday, May 29, the Utah Society for Environmental Education sponsored and attended the third annual CommUNITY festival at the Sorenson Unity Center, an event to celebrate diversity and community cohesion, featuring cultural arts exhibitions, food and games. This is an uplifting and positive event for the culturally diverse neighborhoods near the Sorenson Center, at the intersection of 1400 South and 900 West.

Coinciding with the festival is the opening of the Sorenson Center's Unity Gardens, a community garden with 24 plots for local residents. The community garden is an addition to the Center's existing facilities: a gym, a computer lab and gallery space for community artists. The Center serves as a local meeting place and community center, affirming the diverse cultures of the community which it serves.

USEE staff hosted a table at the event, fielding questions from attendees and assisting organizers with activities. The weekend's festival is part of something bigger, so thanks to all the attendees and volunteers for contributing to the ongoing success of community cooperation.
